It's been quite a while...

It's been quite some time since I posted anything to my blog.  I guess I thought my "normal" life wasn't mainstream news.  But I'm off on a new adventure so I thought I would use my blog to keep interested folks updated on what's happening.

So "What Adventure?" you say.  Well, I'm going to Uganda in May. It’s been on my heart for a long time to go to Uganda to help with the work Covenant Mercies is doing to assist children there.  On May 5th, 2014, I will be going to Uganda with a team from my church, Covenant Fellowship, on an 11-day mission trip. The trip is in partnership with Covenant Mercies.

For those of you who are not familiar with this group, Covenant Mercies is a non-profit organization based out of my church, Covenant Fellowship in Glen Mills Pennsylvania. They have partnered with a local church in Nagongera, Uganda, to assist in relief efforts for orphans in the region through an Orphan Sponsorship Program. This program is currently assisting in providing necessary health care, nutrition, housing, education, and Christian upbringing for over 500 orphaned children.

During this trip we will be continuing to invest in our partnership with the local church and the community of Nagongera.  Among other things, I will be helping to put on a youth retreat for the orphans sponsored by Covenant Mercies, as well as other children in the area.  And most of you know how much I love helping with our own Youth Camp each year.

The biggest thing you can do to support me for this adventure is to pray.  Here are some specifics.
  • That all preparations for the trip will go well
  • That the team will have traveling mercies to and from Uganda and safety and health while we are there
  • That my family will be safe and free from any unwanted adventures while I’m gone
  • That I will do all things in God’s strength and not my own
  • That my participation, words and serving on the trip would be a significant demonstration of the Gospel in many lives
  • For the Lohmann family and their tireless efforts in Uganda

As a team member I am responsible to procure funds to cover my own expenses for the trip.  The wonderful thing is that God has been so very generous with our family that I’ll be able to cover all the costs for the trip myself and I don’t need to do any fund raising.  But coincidental to this trip, I have wanted to participate in a RunFar event to help raise funds for Covenant Mercies.  I’m scheduled to do that on March 14th by running in a 5K race in Malvern, PA.

As you can see from these two things, I really believe in what Covenant Mercies is doing.   I’m taking on the hard part by getting ready for the race, but it’s very easy for you to sponsor me if you’d like!  To do that you can go to the  Covenant Mercies web site and make a tax deductible donation (Go to Donate and select RunFar and my name from the drop down lists – if my name isn’t there yet, just put my name in the comments field).  Or, if you prefer to give by check, please make your check payable to Covenant Mercies with “RunFAR” and my name in the memo line.  You can either give your check to me, or mail directly to Covenant Mercies at 1 Fellowship Drive, Glen Mills, PA 19342.

I want to thank you in advance for your prayers and support.  I’m really looking forward to this new adventure and so blessed to be able to do it.
